A Snowy Winter Wedding at The Transept in Cincinnati, Ohio | Courtney Mullins Photography

She Wished for Snow. She Got a Blizzard.

A Winter Wedding at The Transept | Cincinnati, Ohio

This one had everything I love.

Slow, quiet moments inside. Candlelight. Stained glass. A bride being buttoned into her dress in a tower room with exposed brick arching above her. And then, stepping outside into what I can only describe as a full snow globe, like the weather was just part of the plan all along.

Her guests kept joking that she'd ordered the snow herself. Honestly, after photographing this day, I believe them.

The Transept, Cincinnati

If you haven't been to The Transept, it's a converted 19th-century Gothic church in downtown Cincinnati. Soaring white arched ceilings, original exposed brick, stained glass windows, dark wood, and this incredible sense of history that hits you the moment you walk in. It's the kind of venue that doesn't need much. It just needs the right people in it.

For a winter wedding, it was everything. The ceremony stage was lined edge to edge with pillar candles, flanked by lit Christmas trees. The whole room glowed.

Getting Ready

Getting-ready moments are some of my favorites to photograph, and this one delivered. There's a shot of her in the tower room, being helped into her gown, brick walls, a Gothic arch behind her; that I knew immediately I'd keep in black and white. It just felt like it belonged there. Timeless and still.

Her look was clean and elegant. An off-the-shoulder satin ballgown, a wide wrap for outside, hair by Salon Shae and Bridal, makeup by Ellen (@mua.byellen) Everything felt intentional without trying too hard. My favorite kind.

Portraits in the Snow

Winter weddings don't need perfect weather. They just need people who are all in.

We went outside and it was really snowing. Like REALLY snowing. The red brick of The Transept behind them, snow everywhere, her white bouquet of roses and eucalyptus against his black velvet tuxedo. She was laughing. He pulled her close. I just kept shooting.

This is exactly why I love winter weddings. There's something about the cold that makes people lean in. Hold tighter. Stop overthinking and just be there.

The Ceremony

Inside, everything was warm and full. A large wedding party in all black, candles everywhere, and a room packed with people who genuinely wanted to be there. You can feel the difference between guests who showed up and guests who are all in, this crowd was all in.

Standing at the altar together under those arches, surrounded by candlelight and the people they love most. It was one of those ceremonies that just feels sacred. Quiet in the way that matters.

The Reception

And then the party started. John with Party Pleasers DJ kept the floor moving all night. The kind of reception where grandparents are dancing and the bride has her arms wide open and nobody wants to leave. Tables set with candles, greenery, and black accents. The whole room felt polished and alive at the same time.

What I kept noticing throughout the day was how much care this couple had for every single person there. Big wedding, but it never felt impersonal. You could feel it in the room, that this wasn't just a party. It was a celebration of something real.

End of Night

We snuck outside one more time at the end of the night. Dark, still snowing, the city quiet around them. Just the two of them spinning in it; her dress in the snow, both of them laughing, completely unbothered by the cold.

Those are always my favorite frames. The ones where they forget I'm there and just… exist in the moment together. That's what I'm always chasing.

If you're the kind of couple who would walk into the snow, spin anyway, and trust the process, I think we'd get along really well.
